MMA Betting
MMA betting involves wagering on the outcome of a specific match in mixed martial arts. Unlike some sports, MMA does not have a set of rules for the sport and there is a wide variety of ways to place bets on a fight. Some of the most common MMA bets include moneylines, round betting, and method of victory props. While these wagers require a good understanding of the sport and its fighters, they offer the opportunity to win larger payouts than standard bets.
Moneyline bets are the most basic MMA wagers and use a simple plus and minus system to indicate a favorite and underdog. Favorites are indicated by a minus sign (-) while underdogs are shown with a plus sign (+). The odds for each fighter are then listed, along with their payouts, to determine your potential winnings.
To make a moneyline bet, simply select the fighter you believe will win the fight and place your bet. Once you’ve selected your bet, the odds will appear on your betting slip and show how much you can win if you correctly predict the winner of the fight. You can also combine multiple bets into parlays to increase your chances of winning. However, each selection in a parlay must be correct to earn a payout.
The Over/Under rounds bet is another popular MMA wager and entails betting on how many rounds the fight will last. Depending on the matchup, style of the fighters, and the number of rounds scheduled, sportsbooks will set an Over/Under total. The Over/Under is then priced based on the implied probability that the fight will go longer than or shorter than the given total.
Method of victory props are also available for MMA bettors and allow you to place wagers on whether the fight will end via a knockout, submission, or decision. These bets require more in-depth research and analysis as they consider things like a fighter’s fighting style, past performances, and injuries. Taking into account the fighter’s stance (orthodox or southpaw) is also important, as a fighter with a dominant stance may be at an advantage against an opponent with a weaker one.
In-play MMA betting offers more options than pre-fight betting, and can be a great way to add excitement to your MMA viewing experience. However, it’s important to remember that live odds are determined by algorithms and traders who often fail to take into account technical aspects of a fight. For this reason, in-fight MMA betting should only be used as an additional form of betting strategy, not a replacement for pre-fight handicapping.
