Generally, the higher the true count, the more the casino edge swings in favor of the player. This information can be used to change the player’s strategy; for example, doubling down when the true count is high can increase the player’s potential profits.

For decades, blackjack was king at the Las Vegas strip casino tables, and enjoyed a revival after the 2008 film 21, which portrayed the real-life exploits of the MIT team that developed counting as a strategy. But competition from baccarat and slot machines has chipped away at blackjack’s once-enormous advantage for the player.
